Dr. Stephen L. BAKOSS

He is Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology, Sydney. His recent research interests relate to the assessment of the condition and rehabilitation of major structures, new applications of Advanced Fibre Reinforced Plastics and related technologies.
He has published extensively in the technical literature and is on the editorial committee of the international journal, 'Construction and Building Materials' and on the Advisory Board of two international structural engineering conferences held biennially.
Professor Bakoss was the Head of the School of Civil Engineering and the inaugural Director of the Centre for Built Infrastructure Research at UTS. He has acted as CEO of the Australian Technology Park Innovations Ltd and served on the Board of the Centre of Local Government Education and Research . He is a member of the governing Council of the University of Technology, Sydney.


Prof. George A. BEKEY

Professor of Computer Science (Emeritus)
University of Southern California

Dr. George A. Bekey is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, in 1950 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1952 and 1962, respectively. His research interests are in the areas of intelligent robotic systems and applications of AI and robotics to medicine. From 1984 to 1989 he served as Chairman of the Computer Science Department. He has also served as Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department (1978-82), he was a founder of the Biomedical Engineering Department, and the founder of the Robotics Research Laboratory at USC. From 1998 to 2001 he was Associate Dean for Research of the USC School of Engineering. Dr. Bekey has published over 240 technical papers and several books in the areas of robotics, computer simulation, control systems, biomedical engineering, and human-machine systems. His latest book entitled Autonomous Robots: from Biological Inspiration to Implementation and Control, will be published by MIT Press in May 2005. He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Autonomous Robots and Founding Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a Fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering. During 1996-97 he served as President of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. He officially retired from USC in 2003, but continues to be active on a part-time basis at the University, as well as in consulting and service on the advisory boards of several high technology companies.



Graduated in 1950 from the faculty of Aeronautical Engineering of TUB. Between 1950 and 1956 employment in Hungary (Airforce, Hőtechnikai Kutató Intézet, Középgépipari Intézet), between 1956 and 1961 design engineer at FORD Werke in Cologne W. Germany, then aerodynamician at Avion Dassault in Paris. Between 1961 and 1984 several research and management position at IBM Watson Research Center, concluding as Corporate Director of Software Technology and a two-year assignment in Tokyo. Founding Vice President of Software Technology and Computer Architecture at Microelectronics and computer Technology Corporation in Austin Texas until 1991; founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Electric Research Center in Cambridge Massachusetts until 1998. Currently international consultant in information technology and research management. Fellow of IEEE, held visiting professorships at the University of California at Berkeley, London University, University of Minnesota, New York Polytechnic University, and the University of Texas.


Dr. G. Miklós BODA

Miklós Boda graduated in Physics at the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. He received his Ph.D. in solid state physics at the University of Uppsala in 1971. Then he joined HAFO (Semiconductor Research Institute) Stockholm. In 1980 he moved to Philips Elektronik as manager for LSI Design and Test Center. He joined Ellemtel Telecommunication Systems Laboratories in 1990 as manager of Advanced Technology Research. From February 1996 he helps to establish the Ericsson Traffic Analysis and Network Performance Laboratory at Ericsson in Budapest. From 1998-2004 General Manger of the R&D Division at Ericsson Hungary Ltd. He was the Chairman of Ericsson Concern Committee for Artificial Neural Networks and Artificial Intelligence and the founder and president of the Swedish Neuronet Society. He was the coordinator for SWAP (Swedish ATM Platform) national project. He is the member of the Industrial Advisory Board of the Research Center for Advanced Communications and Computing, North Carolina, U.S.A. and of the Center for Telecommunications Research, Columbia University, New York, U.S.A. He was on the Board of MULTI-G and is on the Board of Stockholm Gigabit Network. He is the member of the Editorial Board of the ACM/Kluwer Wireless Networks (WINET) Journal since 2001. He was the Vice President of Ericsson Hungary Ltd. and is honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering. He received the Széchenyi-Prize from the hand of the Hungarian President in 1999. He was awarded the Neumann medal and Kármán Tódor award in Hungary in 2002. He was assigned as appointed professor of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2003. He was appointed by the Prime Minister to the member of the Advisory Committee of Science and Technology Politics of the Hungarian Government in July 2003. He was appointed by the Hungarian Minister of Education to be the President of the Board of Trustees of the Bay Zoltán Foundation for Applied Research in October 2003. The two latter appointments have been automatically ceased, when the Prime Minister appointed him to be the President of the National Office for Research and Technology from 1st April 2004.


Dr. Joseph T. BLUCHER

Graduated in 1955 from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the TUB. He earned his MSc in 1960 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his DSc in 1966. Between 1955-56 he was an Assistant Professor of the Institute of Mechanical Technology at the TUB. Between 1967-72 he was the Vice President of Industrial Materials Technology, the world largest Hot Isostatic Pressing service company. Since 1987 he is a research associate of Materials Sciences Department at MIT, and since 1991 he is a senior research professor and director of Composite Processing Laboratory at Northeastern University, Boston. He is author of more than a dozen publications in the field of cutting tools, high temperature materials, ion nitriding and metal matrix composites. Since 2004 he has been a titular professor at the BUTE.


Dr. Gianfranco CICOGNANI

Graduated in 1958 from the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry of the Bologna University. He earned a post-graduate degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1961, again by the Bologna University. From 1961 to 1992 he carried out research- and design-related development in the field of Energy, Environment protection and New Technologies. His professional background mainly refers to the energetic field, with specific reference to the Nuclear Power Reactors and related Fuel Cycle. A specific experience can also be recorded along the different solutions of high technology transfer from the research to the Industry. Because of the results of his scientific activity, in 1972 he received the honour of Chevalier of the Republic of Italy.


Dr. A. Saari Csallany

Graduated from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Budapest and earned a Doctor Degree in the same institution in 1970. Research Associate then from 1965 Assistant Professor, Nutritional Biochemistry, Department of Animal Science, 1970 Assistant Professor, Food Chemistry, Department of Food Science, University of Illinois, USA. 1973 Associate Professor, 1980 to present Professor of Food Chemistry and Nutritional Biochemistry, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Minnesota, USA. Her research area is in the field of chemistry and metabolism of vitamin E, fatty acids and their oxidative degradation in vivo and in edible oils with special reference to free radicals, secondary oxidation products, antioxidants and enzymes that promote or protect lipid peroxidation. Her teaching area is in Food Chemistry and Nutritional Biochemistry. She has more than 90 research papers in reviewed journals. She is a member of the American Oil Chemists Society, the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine and the American Society for Nutritional Sciences. She is an Honorary Member of the Hungarian Scientific Society for Food Industry.

EC-JRC-IE Institute for Energy

Graduated in 1984 from the Faculty of Nuclear Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and after a Post-Degree Specialisation School on Nuclear Energy And Alternative Energies and the Engineering ‘Abilitation’ (at the Politecnico di Torino); He earned a PhD at RRC-KI Kurchatov Institute, Moscow, Russia, with a study on Radiation Embrittlement of RPV alloys.
He is Action Leader of the JRC Action SAFELIFE dealing with R&D on PLIM for Safety of Ageing Plants in the EU and Head of the Sector for Ageing Studies and Radiation Embrittlement of the Nuclear Safety Unit leading several projects mainly in the field of radiation embrittlement, materials and irradiation technology.

He has Experience in Advisory roles (e.g. PSI Scientific Board, HFR Safety Committees, SCWG, etc.).



Graduated in 1972 in Applied Science from the Institute of Technology Sydney and holds in total six degrees and professional qualifications in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Accountancy and Negotiation. He became Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney in 1992. He is Managing Director of TCG, a diverse group of companies which over the last quater of a century produced many breakthrough discoveries in computer and communication technologies. In 1993 some of the sixty-five companies of the Group were publicly floated on the Australian Stock exchange as TechComm Group Limited. Another ex TCG Company floated on the New York Exchange in November 97 for US600M, making the largest technology company ever to be established in Australia. The TCG model of corporate structure is now part of many university undergraduate and Masters' programmes in Business Management in Australia and around the world. He chairs a number of influential government and private enterprise boards and is active in the international arena including having represented Australia on the OECD SME committee. Prof. Gary J. BALAS

Graduate with BS (1982) and MS (1984) from the University of California, Irvine in Civil and Electrical Engineering and PhD (1989) from the California Institute of Technology in   Aeronautics and Astronautics. He is started as an assistant professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics at the University of Minnesota in 1990 and is currently a Distinguished University McKnight Professor and Department Head. His research interests include control of aerospace systems, fault detection and diagnosis, robust and linear, paramter-varying control, control of safety critical systems and transition of control theory to practice. He has received the 2010 Prize for the Development of the Hungarian Aeronautical Science from the Hungarian Scientific Association for Transport, American Automatic Control Council O Hugo Schuck Best Paper Award in 2006, and the 2005 IEEE Control System Society Control Systems Technology Award. He is President of MUSYN Inc., co-organizer of the MUSYN Robust Multivariable Control Short Course and co-developer of the Matlab μ-Analysis and Synthesis and Robust Control Toolboxes. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.



RIMI Security System Inc.

He was born in 1949 in Budapest. Since 1970 he has been living in the U.S.A. Graduated in 1981 from the faculty of the Electrical Engineering at Los Angeles University. He also studied and received his Masters Degree in Business Management. He is the owner and President of RIMI Security Systems, Inc., which is the 8th largest System Integrator of security systems, home theaters and home automation in the U.S. In 1993 he was elected as a member of the "Oxford Who's Who" and in the same year, as a Corresponding Member of the New York Academy of Sciences. In 1999 he became a representative in the United Nations of the UNY. He has published numerous books in the security field.


Sharif István HORTHY


Graduated in 1962 with a degree in Physics from Oxford University. He earned a second degree in Civil Engineering at Imperial College in 1966. He worked as a consulting engineer in England and later in the Far East where he founded and managed two major Indonesian companies in the fields of consulting engineering, construction and property development. Now in the USA, he assists clients in Europe, the Pacific Rim and the United States with their international business strategies.


Dr. György Gusztáv JAROS

Graduated in 1964 from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and earned his PhD in Physiology at the University of Pretoria, both in South Africa in 1975. He has been Visiting Professor in Strasbourg, France; Jackson Mississippi, USA; Erlangen, Germany and also at ELTE in Budapest. He was Professor of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and President and Biomedical Engineering Society of South Africa. From 1995 to 2004 he was Research Professor at the Department of Anaesthesiology at University of Sydney. Since 2004, he is Professor of Physiology at the newly formed Medical School of Bond University.


Prof. Mohammad JAMSHIDI

Mo JAMSHIDI Ph.D., DEng. Dr. H. C. is the Regents Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the AT&T Professor of Manufacturing Engineering and founding Director of Center for Autonomous Control Engineering (ACE) at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, USA. He is a Senior Research Advisor at US Air Force Research Laboratory, KAFB, NM. He was an advisor for the NASA Headquarters (1996-2003), NASA JPL (1993-1997) and an advisor to DOE-ORNL (1989-94), DOE Headquarters with Office of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (2003-2004). He has worked over 4 years in industry at IBM Corporation and General Motors Corporation (USA) and Siemens Automotive, France. He holds four honorary doctoral degrees, including a Doctor of Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 2004 and Technical University of Crete, Greece, 2004. He has over 550 technical publications including 54 books and edited volumes. Six of his books have been translated into at least one foreign language and used for teaching in 4 or more languages, as textbooks around the world. He is known around the globe on his contributions to modeling, control and applications of large-scale complex systems, which is a building block of what is now known as System of Systems Engineering (SoSE). His two-editions of his book on the complex systems have been used in 55 nations in 7 languages. He is the Founding Editor or co-founding editor or Editor-in-Chief of 5 journals (including Elsevier's International Journal of Computers and Electrical Engineering Elsevier, UK, Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing, TSI Press, USA) and one magazine (IEEE Control Systems Magazine). He was the series editor for ASME Press Series on Robotics and Manufacturing from 1988 to 1996 and Prentice Hall Series on Environmental and Intelligent Manufacturing Systems from 1991 to 1998. He has been program or general chairs of several IEEE and World Automation Congress (WAC, wacong.org) national and international conferences since 1974. Prof. Li-Hyung LEE

Department of Architectural Engineering, Hanyang University Seoul

He is a Professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, where he served as Vice President from 1994 to 1999. Since 1994, he has been the Director of the Advanced Structural Research Station, which is an engineering research center of the Korean Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). His research interests include the behavior of reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete members, the development of structural systems, and hybrid structure. He has published many books related to reinforced concrete and structural design in Korea and has had numerous papers published in national and international technical journals. He is currently involved in many technical committees and engineering societies and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea. He also served as President of Computational Structural Engineering Institute of Korea from 1996-1998. In 1995, he received the "Distinguished Research Paper of the Korean Concrete Institute" award for his contribution in the areas of concrete structure and structural engineering, and in 1997, he was awarded "Honorable Professor" of Hanyang University. In 2002 he received ACI (American Concrete Institute) fellowship which was given to the person making outstanding contribution to concrete structure. Lee received his bachelor's degree from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea in 1964, and his master's and PhD in engineering in 1970 and 1974, respectively, from Tokyo University, Japan.


Prof. Ki-Jun LEE

Hononary President at National Academy of Engineering of Korea(NAEK)

Graduated with BS(1961) and MS(1964) from Seoul National University, and PhD(1971) from University of Washington, Seattle in Chemical Engineering in the studies of rheology. Dr. LEE, in his career, has been in various posts which inspire and lead engineering innovation and technology development. He had served as President in NAEK in 1996-2004 and he is currently serving as the Honorary President of the Academy. He was Chairman of Korea Industrial Technology Foundation in 2001-2005. He was the 22nd President of Seoul National University in 1998-2002. During his tenure, he had led the renaissance of Universities in Korea in terms of restructures and qualities. He was also Chairman of Korean Council for University Presidents in 2001-2002. He was President of the Korean Society for Engineering Education and Technology Transfer in 1993-1996.
For honors and awards, he was bestowed the Distinguished Faculty Alumnus Award from the University of Washington in 2002, a plaque of appreciation at the President's Meeting from Association of Pacific Rim University(APRU), and three national decorations for his contributions and achievements in engineering development and education, which are Blue Bird, Magnolia and Presidential in 2003, 1996 and 1978 respectably.

Prof. John G. LENARD

Graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1970. He worked as a lecturer at the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1963-66. He was lecturer in mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 1969, and he was Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta from 1970-75 and the University of New Brunswick from 1975-1989. He was Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He has lectured on topics of manufacturing processes; deformation processes; metallurgy and plasticity; tribology; machine design; statics and dynamics. His field of research is metal forming, specializing in mathematical and physical simulation of the hot and cold flat rolling process. He is the author of over 140 publications and three books. He is an active member of CIRP. He has cooperated with Hungarian engineers for several years. He has attended several technical conferences in Hungary and delivered several lectures. He has published in Gép and in Gazdaság és Gazdálkodás. He retired in 2003, since he follows his research and lectures as a professor emeritus.


Prof Lennart LJUNG

Department of Electrical Engineering Linkoping University

Lennart LJUNG was born in Malmö, Sweden in 1946. He graduated and received his PhD at the Lund Institute of Technology in 1970 and 1974. As a professor in Linköping he built up the Division of Automatic Control since 1976. The research interest of his group is ranging from all aspects of system identification to signal processing, nonlinear dynamic systems, hybrid systems and variety of applications. He is member of both the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and also a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He has also many appointments in the international arena (associate editor of several journals, IFAC vice-president between 1987-93, etc.). He is the author of 10 books and several hundreds of international publications. He is also the author of the software package "System Identification Toolbox", MATLAB. He is an IEEE Fellow, an IFAC Advisor, and a recepient of the Quazza medal from IFAC in 2002 and of the Hendryk W. Bode Lecture Prize from IEEE in 2003.


Dr. Ferenc MASSZI

COMPAQ Computer AB

He got his education at the Budapest Technical University and started his career there, at the Department of Electron Devices, in 1976. From 1980 he spent shorter periods in Sweden as a visiting researcher. In 1984 he relocated to Sweden, where he did research work in the field of physical modeling of semiconductors for more than a decade. In 1995 he joined Digital Semiconductor in Hudson (near Boston), Massachusetts, USA. After the Compaq acquisition he stayed with the Alpha Development Group and managed the transistor-modeling group in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. In 2001 he moved back to Sweden, where he is working for Compaq Global Services in Stockholm, managing a major project with Alpha microprocessors for the future generations of Ericsson's AXE switchboards.


Prof. Janos B.NAGY

He was born in Akaszto, Hungary in 1941. He got his PhD at Catholic University of Louvain, Louvain, Belgium in 1970. His basic training was in physical organic chemistry. Since 1982, he is professor at the jesuit university of Namur, Belgium and since 1994, he is the director of the Laboratory of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Among his research fields are the application of nuclear magnetic resonance in heterogeneous catalysis, the characterization of solid catalysts with NMR, the synthesis and characterization of fullerenes and carbon nanotubes, preparation of monodisperse inorganic and organic nanoparticles from microemulsions. Founder of the spin-off company NANOCYL that produces and sells carbon nanotubes through over the whole world. Author of more then 500 scientific publications, coauthor of a book on zeolites and coeditor of three books. Founder member of the Committee of Human Rights in Central Europe. He got the price of member of the Order of Leopold II, Belgian king, the best citizen of Namur in 2002. Doctor Honoris Causa of University of Szeged, external member of the Hungarian Academy of Science and honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering.


Prof. Soo Woo NAM

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology 

Graduated in 1968 from the Dept. of Metallurgical Engineering at the Inha University in Inchon, Korea. He earned his PhD degree from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado in 1974. He is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and was the Dean of Student Affairs, the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Vice President at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He is the President of the Korea Institute of Metals and Materials. He is a fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and also is a founding member of the Korean Academy of Engineering. He is a member of the editorial Advisory Board for the International Journal of Damage Mechanics (USA) and of the International Advisory Board for the Journal of Materials Research International (Japan). He now is acting as member of international advisory board for four International Conferences such as International Conferences on Low-Cycle Fatigue. He has invented the strongest weldable 7000 series aluminium alloy of the world and non-heat treatable 6000 series aluminium alloy (AA 6024).


Prof. Michael J. OSBORNE

Vice-Chancellor and President, La Trobe University

Graduated from Oxford University in 1965. He subsequently received a Dr.Philosophy and Letters (summa cum laude) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is a laureate of the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts, a member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, corresponding member of the Athens Academy and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. After initial service at the University of Lancaster (UK) he was appointed professor of Classical Studies at University of Melbourne and subsequently Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of the Academic Board. In 1990 he was appointed to the position of Vice-Chancellor and President of La Trobe University, Melbourne. He was for a decade Chair of the International Committee of the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee and has been a protagonist in the promotion of an international dimension for the tertiary sector. He is a Professor of Peking University and holds Honorary Professorships in the People's Republic of China in Harbin Medical University, Sichuan University, Yunnan University, Kunming Medical College and Yunnan Normal University. He is Emeritus Professor in the University of Melbourne, Chair of the National Centre for Hellenic Studies and Research in Melbourne, and an honorary member of the Cela Foundation in Padron (Spain). He is the author of three major works and numerous articles in learned journals in Greek Epigraphy and Prosopography. He has also written extensively about educational issues and is the Australian representative for and recently President of the University Mobility in the Asia Pacific Scheme. He is President of the International Network of Universities. Honours include the Aristotle Award from Greece, an Honorary Distinction from the Hellenic Republic of Cyprus and the Centennial Medal of Australia for services to Hellenic Studies and Culture.



Department of Biomedical Engineering Linköping University Hospital

Received a MSEE degree in electrical engineering from the Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden in 1964 and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Uppsala University in 1971. The Ph.D. thesis discussed models of arterial blood pressure regulation and especially the importance of baroreceptor control. From 1963 to 1972 he worked as a research associate at the Department of Physiology and Medical Biophysics, Uppsala University, where he developed new scientific methods in many branches of physiology. In 1972 he was appointed Professor at Linköping University. Dr. Öberg is the founding chairman of the Clinical Engineering Division of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering, an organization that have elected him as Honorary Lifetime Member. His research interests include circulatory physiology, bio-optics, biomedical instrumentation, sensors and clinical engineering. He has published 400 scientific papers and books in the field of biomedical and clinical engineering, physiology and bio-optics. He is a past President of the Swedish Society of Medical Physics and Medical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (1980) and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (1987) and also a Honorary Member of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering. He is the Chairman of International Academy for Medical and Biological Engineering and a Fellow of American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Acknowledging his outstanding research contributions in the field of Medical and Biological Engineering he was granted by the Vladimir K. Zworykin Award in 2003.



Graduated from the Technical University of Munich. He received his first diploma in 1955, his Dr.-Ing. in 1958, and has studied abroad at the TU Berlin, and in Paris. From 1955, he was engineer for R&D at Rasselstein AG Steelworks, and thereafter served as Director of the Institute for Failure Analysis at Allianz Ins. AG until 1966. Following this, he was a Member of the Board of the Technical Center Gmbh of Allianz Ins., and in 1971, he became the Head of the Department of Material Science at TU Munich. He is a companion of IST Gmbh, the Head of the Board of Trustees of TÜV-Southern Germany and on the Consult Committee of Germanischer-Lloyd. His awards include the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Carl Wellinger Medal of Honour of the German Society of Engineers. He is the author of three books in his scientific field.


Dr. George S. SPRINGER

Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics

Graduate in mechanical engineering at the University of Sydney (B.E) in 1959, and subsequently earned his M.Eng. (1960), M.Sc.(1961) and PhD. (1962) degrees from Yale University. From 1962 to 1967 he served on the faculty of MIT, and from 1967 to 1983 was a Professor at the University of Michigan. Since 1983 he has been Paul Pigott Professor of Engineering at Stanford University. He has served as consultant to NASA, US Air Force and to major aerospace companies. Author of thirteen books and over 200 technical papers. He is founding editor of the Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites and is Past President of the International Committee on Composite Materials. Member of the US Academy of Engineering and Honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Science.


Prof. Geza M. TIMCAK

Graduated in 1964 at Technical University Kosice as a mining engineer. He earned his PhD in 1975 at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, where he became also a member of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy. Since its establishment in 1996 up to 2001 he acted as the Director of Institute of Lifelong education of TU Kosice. Presently, he is a professor at the Dept. of Geotourism of the Institute of entrepreneurship and tourism, TU Kosice. Since 1990 he worked in the area of geological applications of statistics and computerised graphical and numerical information systems. His further specialisation is in the area of soft skills development. He managed a number of EU projects (TEMPUS, Leonardo, Socrates). Teaching responsibilities: multivariate statistics in geology, geographical information systems, human potential development, strategic planning (all at the Technical University, Kosice). He is the Head of the Association for Human and Landscape Ecology and Association for information society and management. He is a qualified trainer in human potential development techniques. He authored of more than 200 papers and publications in technical fields and more than 70 papers and books in human potential development area.


Prof. Paavo URONEN


Graduated in 1961 at Helsinki University of Technology (Engineering),1966 at University of Oulu (Physics) and got PhD in Engineering at the University of Oulu. He has worked a.o. in chemical industry, as professor and dean at the university of Oulu and as Professor at Helsinki University of Technology where he was Rector between 1994-2003. He retired in 2003. Professor Uronen has had many important positions in industry and in academic world a.o. he has been the chairman of the Council of Finnish University Rectors between 1998-2002 and President of CESAER between 2002-2004. His scientific work has been concentrating in modelling, simulation, control and automation in process industry especially in the pulp and paper, metallurgical, petrochemical and chemical industries. He is author of more than 200 scientific papers and articles in international magazines and conferences.
